Yes, really.

The ten-minute title track for Fear Inoculum, due out August 30th, sounds exactly as you’d hope it would. Danny Carey’s drumming, Justin Chancellor’s bass, Adam Jones’ guitar and Maynard James Keenan’s vocals are unmistakable.

To illustrate just how long it has been, consider that the following was the case the last time Tool released new music:

  • George W. Bush was US President
  • Tony Blair was UK Prime Minister
  • MySpace was the dominant social networking platform
  • The London Astoria was still open
  • You could smoke inside UK venues and other buildings
  • Axl Rose and Slash were still bitter enemies, Axl infamously quipping ‘Not in this lifetime,’ to someone asking about a reunion
  • Muse were melting minds with Knights of Cydonia
  • My Chemical Romance beckoned us to join The Black Parade
  • Lordi won the Eurovision Song Contest with Hard Rock Hallelujah
  • At the BRIT Awards, Arctic Monkeys won Best British Newcomer, while Coldplay scooped best album and best single for X&Y and Speed of Sound respectively
  • Daniel Craig made his debut as James Bond in Casino Royale
  • Borat hit cinemas
  • Mobile phones still had buttons, no microSD card slots and no touchscreens!

Fear Inoculum releases on August 30th.
